“We’re fighting for all Africans”: Flobar School Director backs every African team at World Cup 2026

The Executive Director of Flobar School in the Adenta Municipality, Mrs Sandra Addico, has thrown her weight behind all African nations heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling for unity and continental support ahead of the tournament.

Speaking during the African Union Day celebration, Mrs Addico said the World Cup should be viewed as a platform for Africa, not just individual countries.

The 2026 edition runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026 and will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“When it comes to the World Cup, there’s nothing like your nation. We are fighting for all Africans,” she declared.

Mrs Addico explained that African teams rise or fall together, which is why fans across the continent tune in even when their own country isn’t playing.

“We are solidly behind them in prayer and fasting to make sure that all our teams, the African teams I would say, not only Ghana, the other Africans will be at the top. So if you realize in Ghana, whether Africa is playing or Ghana is playing or not, we always sit by ourselves to watch the match. Even when it is that we watch the match for corrections, we watch the match from other countries to correct ourselves here in Ghana.”

While urging support for the entire continent, the educationist said she has full confidence in Ghana’s Black Stars to make the nation proud on the global stage.

“We are solidly behind our Black Stars and we believe that they’ll be at the top. Ghana will pride herself in the US, Canada and Mexico to play and I’m sure that we can assure ourselves that they’ll make us proud. That’s our prayer — they’ll make us proud,” she added.

Africa’s record 10-team representation at World Cup 2026. This expanded 48-team tournament gives Africa 10 slots — the largest contingent in World Cup history. The 10 CAF nations that have qualified are:

1. Ghana – Black Stars, Group L: England, Croatia, Panama

2. Morocco – Atlas Lions, 2022 semi-finalists

3. Senegal – Teranga Lions, 2002 quarter-finalists

4. Egypt – Pharaohs

5. Tunisia – Carthage Eagles

6. Algeria – Desert Foxes

7. Ivory Coast – Les Éléphants

8. South Africa – Bafana Bafana

9. DR Congo – Les Léopards

10. Cape Verde – Blue Sharks, first-time qualifiers

Morocco’s run to the semi-finals in Qatar 2022 remains Africa’s best World Cup finish. Mrs Addico’s call for unity comes as all 10 nations prepare to build on that milestone and chase a first World Cup final.

Ghana kicks off their campaign on June 17 vs Panama at BMO Field in Toronto. They’ll then face England on June 23 in Boston and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
