The wait is over. Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years, sealing the title with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
The triumph marks the culmination of Mikel Arteta’s nearly seven-year project at the Emirates. After three consecutive seasons as runners-up, the Gunners have finally shed the “nearly men” label and reclaimed domestic glory.
“That was beautiful,” Arteta said as he lifted the trophy for the first time.
“Look at the joy of all the people, they have been waiting for this for so long. We’ve had difficult moments along the way, but it’s all worth it when you see that kind of reaction.”
Arteta praised his squad’s mentality and the connection with the supporters, crediting both for driving the team over the line. “I think we showed incredible connection, commitment and courage. Everything around us has fuelled our desire to do it,” he said.
For now, the manager says it’s time to step back and enjoy the moment. “Now it is time to enjoy and take the manager hat off.
”The celebrations may be short-lived, with a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain looming on Saturday. Victory in Munich would cap a historic double and signal the start of a new era of dominance for the Gunners.
Arsenal’s last league title came in the 2003/04 “Invincibles” season. After more than two decades of near misses and rebuilding, the club is back on top of English football.
