The Ghana Taekwondo Federation has taken a major step toward clean elections with the inauguration of a three-man Vetting and Election Committee ahead of its Elective Congress.
The short ceremony was held Friday, June 19, 2026 at the Ghana Olympic Committee office in Accra. The GTF’s Elective Congress is slated for July 18, 2026.

GOC President Mr. Richard Akpokavie chaired the occasion. He noted that sports federation governance in Ghana is “bedevilled with a number of issues.” As part of the GOC’s push to streamline sports administration, the Committee’s inauguration at the GOC office is meant to promote good electoral practice and set a standard for member federations.
“GOC housed the inauguration of the committee to promote good electoral process among federations and to endorse a certain standard in the electoral process for its members,” Mr. Akpokavie observed.
The Vetting and Election Committee is chaired by Mr. Lawrence Osei-Boateng Esq. of the Ghana Free Zones Authority. Members include GOC Secretary General Mr. Mohammed Muniru Kassim Esq, and a yet-to-be-named staff member from the National Sports Authority, Ghana.
The Committee has already started work. Immediately after the ceremony, it held a brief meeting with the GTF Executive Board.
Among those at the ceremony were GTF Executive Board Members, including the Federation President, Mr. Frederick Otu.
With the Committee now in place, attention shifts to July 18 as the GTF prepares for its Congress under the oversight of the newly inaugurated vetting body.
