FIFA Imposes Registration Ban On Karela United Over Unpaid Debt

Karela United FC have been hit with a FIFA registration ban after failing to settle a financial obligation owed to former player Sana Camara.

In a letter dated August 17, 2026 and issued through the FIFA Legal Portal, the world governing body confirmed that the Ghana Premier League club is now barred from registering new players at both international and national level.

The correspondence, signed by FIFA Head of Disciplinary Américo Espallargas, references an earlier ruling under case number FPSD-23160.

“As it appears that, despite the Decision, Karela United (the Respondent) has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards Sana Camara,” FIFA stated.

As a result, FIFA has activated a registration ban that will remain in force until the outstanding amount owed to Camara is fully paid. The governing body has, however, capped the sanction at a maximum of three entire and consecutive registration periods.

The timing could not be worse for Karela. The ban comes during the current transfer and registration window, significantly affecting the club’s ability to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season.

FIFA has also instructed the Ghana Football Association to immediately enforce the ban at the national level if it has not already been implemented.

The amount owed to Camara was not disclosed in the FIFA letter. Karela will need to resolve the matter in line with the original FIFA decision before the restriction can be lifted.

The development adds further pressure on the Tamale-based side to settle the debt quickly if they are to regain their ability to register new players.
