The curtains have fallen on the Badminton Grand Slam 2026 and Accra didn’t just host the world — we showed the world. From August 12th to 16th, the biggest badminton tournament ever staged on Ghanaian soil brought elite players to the Borteyman Sports Complex for a World Ranking Event and a crucial LA 2028 Olympic Qualifier. After five days of smashes, rallies, and drama, Ghana walks away with heads held high and three medals.

The tournament’s defining moment came in Women’s Doubles. In a final no one will forget, Rachael Quarcoo & Moslena Ama Korama Adu faced teammates Victoria Asmah & Alana Faith Sullo for gold.

It was power vs finesse. Experience vs youth. But above all, Ghana vs Ghana. The atmosphere at Borteyman was electric. Chants and drums filled the stands as the crowd backed both pairs. No matter the scoreline, one thing was certain: the gold was staying home.

Quarcoo and Adu ultimately claimed the title, capping a dominant week and giving Ghana its headline gold medal.

Beyond the podium, several Ghanaian players announced themselves on the world stage. Francis Obeng-Shang, Ghana’s top-ranked man, delivered fearless performances that showed he can compete with the best. Ofori-Acheampong Brempong proved his versatility, going deep in Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Andy Amofa, the University of Ghana No.1, also made his mark as one of the country’s brightest talents.

Young players tested themselves against international opposition. Fans packed Borteyman all week. And Ghana proved it can host, compete, and contend at the highest level.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Badminton Ghana President Mr. Evans Yeboah said: “This was the biggest Badminton tournament Ghana has ever hosted. Our players brought their A-game and Ghana brought its heart. This is only the beginning on our road to LA 2028. The points are banked, the lessons are learned, the target is now firmly set on LA 2028.”
