The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie Esq., has appealed to the media to focus on positive reporting of school sports, highlighting the success stories of young athletes.

Speaking at a ceremony announcing a 7-day training camp in Nairobi, Kenya for athletes Gladys Boateng and Blessed Junior Owusu, Akpokavie emphasized that the athletes were discovered through school sports and deserve recognition.

“They were spotted during school sports, so we shouldn’t be in a rush to report the bad side but should pay much attention to the very positive ones,” he said. Akpokavie encouraged corporate bodies and individuals to invest in school sports, assuring them of support from the ministry, federations, and the GOC.

The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, was attended by dignitaries including Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Wilhemina Asamoah, Chief Director, Ghana Olympic Committee, Ghana Athletics President, Bawah Fuseini, C.E.O of Ghana Athletics, Ahmed Baffoe, and Ghana Athletics administrator, Boakye Yiadom, among others.

Gladys and Blessed, accompanied by coaches Mustapha Ibrahim and Francisca Azumah, will participate in the training camp from April 5-12, 2026, ahead of the Youth Olympic Games.
