GFA Launches U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues, Paving Way for Future Stars

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Friday, January 23, 2026, officially launched the maiden edition of the FIFA U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues at its headquarters, marking a significant milestone in the country’s women’s football development pathway.

The initiative, rolled out under FIFA’s Women’s Football Development Programme, brought together key stakeholders, including FIFA Consultant Thubaelihle Bridgette Sibanda, GFA Executive Council members, and regional football association chairmen.

GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo emphasized the importance of collective ownership and collaboration in ensuring the initiative’s long-term success.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku expressed gratitude to FIFA for its support, highlighting the administration’s sustained investments in women’s football since 2019.

“The U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues provide a structured and competitive platform for young female footballers nationwide, ensuring early talent identification, consistent development, and increased participation,” President Simeon-Okraku said. He added that the league aims to shape character, instill discipline, and empower young girls to become leaders and role models.

The GFA President stressed that sustainable success at the top must be anchored on strong grassroots foundations, noting that the U15 league represents the foundation for the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.

“The Ghana Football Association is committed to walking this journey with you every step of the way,” he declared. The league is designed to promote talent identification, long-term player development, and grassroots participation, while instilling core values such as discipline, teamwork, and excellence.
