For Samuel Kwaku Adogley, the upcoming Accra Grand Slam is the culmination of a journey that began on the courts of Achimota School.
From a young schoolboy picking up a racket at the Girls’ Gym, to now standing on the stage of one of the biggest events in Ghana — The Grand Slam — Adogley says the road has been defined by hard work, sacrifice, and belief.
“The journey has been filled with hard work, sacrifices, lessons, and countless moments that have shaped me into the athlete I am today,” Adogley said.
The Accra Grand Slam runs from August 12th to 16th, 2026 at the Borteyman Sports Complex. It is a World Ranking Event and also serves as a qualifier for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
For Adogley, representing Ghana on home soil at such a prestigious tournament is a moment he won’t take for granted. “I, Samuel Kwaku Adogley, am incredibly proud and honoured to represent Ghana as a National Badminton Player at this prestigious event,” he said.
Looking back, the national player says his story is proof that dedication pays off. “From where I started to where I am today, I can only be grateful for the journey. This is more than just badminton — it is a reminder that with dedication, consistency, and faith, dreams can become reality.”
Ghana’s badminton community has been growing rapidly, with the Grand Slam expected to showcase both established stars and rising talents like Adogley as they chase ranking points and Olympic qualification.
As the shuttles fly at Borteyman this week, one young man from Achimota will be living proof that big stages can start in small gyms.
