Former Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has officially said goodbye to Ghana, thanking the nation and calling for a new foundation to be built around the team as he departs the role.

In an emotional message posted to his Facebook page, the Portuguese tactician reflected on his time with the four-time African champions, saying football “teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn.”

Queiroz said he leaves with pride in what the team achieved, but also with the hunger for more.

“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more,” he wrote. “Reaching a higher level should never be the destination — it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions.”

The former Real Madrid and Iran coach urged that the future of Ghana football must go beyond matchdays.

“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent.”

Queiroz expressed appreciation to the Ghana Football Association leadership for the opportunity to lead the national team.

“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honor and privilege to serve the Country and the Black Stars.”

He also praised his players and technical staff for their “courage, commitment and unwavering dedication,” and addressed supporters directly.

“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”

Queiroz ended the post with a rallying message: “Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now. To the future. 🇬🇭 CQ🇬🇭”
