Medeama Edge Closer to Title as Hearts’ Hopes End in Ghana Premier League Thriller

Medeama SC tightened their grip on the Ghana Premier League title race with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Basake Holy Stars in a tense Western derby, while Hearts of Oak’s championship hopes were officially ended after a goalless draw with Aduana FC.

The win restores Medeama’s two-point lead at the top with two matches to play, keeping Ibrahim Tanko’s side firmly on course for glory.

Under pressure after Gold Stars briefly moved to the summit, Medeama responded with a gritty away victory at AAK Ampain Park.

Despite Salim Adams missing a penalty and Kelvin Nkrumah hitting the woodwork twice, the league leaders stayed composed. Kingsley Braye delivered the decisive moment with a second-half strike that sealed all three points for the Mauve and Yellow.

Hearts of Oak’s slim title ambitions came to an end at the Accra Sports Stadium after they were held 0-0 by Aduana FC.

The Phobians controlled possession and created the better chances, but once again failed to convert. It’s a familiar story for a campaign defined by too many draws at home. The result means Hearts finish the season without silverware, while Aduana strengthened their push for a top-four finish.

Elsewhere, the fight for survival produced key results:

Young Apostles climbed out of danger with a 1-0 win over Nations FC. Samuel Prempeh’s first-half goal secured a fifth straight home victory, while Nations slipped to 15th and remain in trouble.

Heart of Lions revived their survival bid with a commanding 3-0 win over FC Samartex in Kpando. Captain Ebenezer Abban opened the scoring, before Seedorf Asante and Ishmael Addo made it 3-0 before halftime. Samartex missed a second-half penalty in a miserable afternoon for the former champions.

Vision FC boosted their survival hopes with a convincing 3-0 win over Karela United in Tema. Abdoul Nafilss Konate opened the scoring early, with Bernard Kwarteng and Zaidan Alhasaan adding late goals.

Swedru All Blacks snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against Bechem United. Kofi Tompuo looked to have won it for Bechem late on, but Eric Wiafe Darkwa equalized in injury time to keep Swedru’s survival hopes alive.

Berekum Chelsea continued their resurgence with a 1-0 win over Dreams FC. Kofi Tanib Oxborn’s 32nd-minute strike made it three wins in a row, lifting Chelsea into the top half on 44 points and easing relegation fears.

Asante Kotoko ended a four-game winless run with a 2-0 win over already relegated Eleven Wonders at Baba Yara Stadium. Lawson Kyei Manu opened the scoring before debutant Anthony Duah netted to give interim coach Hamza Obeng his first win in charge.

With just two games remaining, both the title race and relegation battle remain wide open. Medeama hold a two-point advantage at the top, while a cluster of clubs remain locked in the fight to avoid the drop.
