Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign suffered a setback on Friday as the Black Stars settled for a 1-1 draw against Angola. Otto Addo’s side surrendered a one-goal lead, courtesy of Jordan Ayew’s 19th-minute strike, as substitute Zini Cabaca equalized in the 63rd minute.
In the post-match press conference, Addo expressed disappointment but remained hopeful. “Congratulations to Angola on qualifying for the AFCON. They played freely, without pressure, and pressed us well,” he acknowledged.
Addo attributed Ghana’s struggles to a drop in intensity. “We were missing our intensity, and it wasn’t good enough on our side.” He also highlighted the team’s inability to capitalize on home advantages in recent matches.
“In these tournaments, you have to win your home games; it’s very important. If you don’t win, it’s always difficult to play away and try to win,” Addo emphasized.
Ghana’s performance in the qualifying campaign has been underwhelming, with Addo admitting, “We have to look at the whole games, especially our home games. We lost to Angola at home, where we played better and created chances, but sadly we lost.”
Despite the setback, Addo remains optimistic. Ghana’s final group match against Niger on November 18 presents an opportunity to redeem themselves.
The Black Stars currently sit at the bottom of Group F with 3 points, but Addo’s focus remains on securing a better outcome in their next match.
