As the countdown begins to the biggest badminton Grand Slam in the world, Ghana’s Jessica Lomotey says she’s ready to use her home tournament as a springboard to Olympic qualification.
The Accra Grand Slam runs from August 12th to 16th, 2026 at the Borteyman Sports Complex, and will serve as a World Ranking Event and qualifier for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
Lomotey is one of the brightest prospects in the Women’s category and has built an impressive resume both locally and internationally.
She was part of the Mixed Doubles team that won Gold at the Regional Mixed Team Championships. She also clinched Bronze in Women’s Doubles at both the All Ghana Championships and the J.E Wilson Ghana International 2025.
Her form has seen her rise to the top of Ghana’s national rankings. She is currently 4th in Women’s Singles and ranked 1st in both Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles.
Ghana boasts some of the finest badminton talent on the continent and is steadily closing the gap on the sport’s traditional powerhouses — and Lomotey is leading that charge.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Lomotey said the Accra Grand Slam represents a huge opportunity.”This tournament will give me more exposure and also put me in a better position to qualify for the LA 2028 Olympic Games,” she said.
With ranking points for Los Angeles on the line, the five-day event is expected to feature the world’s best players and provide Ghana’s stars with a rare chance to compete against elite opposition at home.
