Ghana’s wrestling team landed at the Accra International Airport on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to a heroes’ welcome after winning two gold medals at an international tournament in Guinea-Bissau.
Prince Nimo Owusu (under-41kg) and Muphtawu Mohammad (under-51kg) were part of a team that traveled to Guinea-Bissau on April 3 for a training camp sponsored by United World Wrestling (UWW) and Olympic Solidarity under the “Road to Dakar” project. The camp prepared them for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

Owusu defeated Gambia’s Nbali Luis Buanh to claim gold, while Mohammad topped Sierre Leon’s Kamara Alimamy to bring home a second gold for Ghana.
Ghana Wrestling Association President Norbert Amefu praised the young athletes, saying, “I’m very, very proud of them. We’re moving forward.” He thanked Ghana Olympic Committee President Richard Akpokavie and National Sports Authority boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah for supporting wrestling development.

Amefu hinted at organizing more tournaments, especially for youth, adding, “We realize that when it starts from the youth, it works.
”Coach Twumasi Addo said the Guinea-Bissau camp was invaluable. “It helped them intensify training… gave them exposure to fight well, how to keep their body prepared for competition.” The wrestlers learned techniques like scoring points, body massaging, weight management, and diet planning.

The duo are expected to share their skills with teammates as Ghana gears up for the Youth Olympics.
