Baba Blazes to 400m Hurdles Glory in Cape Coast

Ghana’s top hurdler, Seidu Mammoudu Baba, made a statement at the Cape Coast Open Championship 2026, clocking a personal best and season’s best 49.45 seconds to win the men’s 400m hurdles.

The Ghana Armed Forces athlete was in top form, showcasing excellent technique and speed endurance to dip under the 50-second barrier for the first time in his career. His time was the fastest across both heats, highlighting his growing form early in the 2026 season.

Osborn Turkson (Cheetahs Track and Field Club) and Banabas Dompey (Ghana Armed Forces) rounded out the podium in Heat 2 with 50.41 and 50.70 seconds, respectively.

Mammoudu’s impressive performance positions him strongly for the national championships and international competitions later this season. His 49.45 time is one of the fastest early-season 400m hurdles times recorded in Ghana in recent years.
