Armwrestling coach Husseini Akueteh Addy has been nominated for the prestigious Coach of the Year award at the upcoming 49th SWAG Awards.
Addy’s impressive coaching record has earned him the recognition, particularly his outstanding achievements with Ghana’s Armwrestling team. Under his guidance, the team made history at the 13th African Games hosted in Accra, winning a record 41 medals.
The team’s impressive haul included 8 gold, 19 silver, and 14 bronze medals, contributing a staggering 60% to Team Ghana’s total medal count of 68. This achievement marked the most medals won by any federation in the history of the African Games.
Addy’s success didn’t stop there. He also coached Ghana’s Grace Mintah to win the country’s first-ever gold medal at the World Armwrestling Championship held in Moldova. This outstanding accomplishment solidified Addy’s standing as one of Ghana’s best trainers.
The SWAG Awards, organised by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, aim to recognise and honour outstanding sports personalities, teams, and coaches who have made significant contributions to Ghanaian sports.
Addy’s hard work, commitment, and proficiency in arm wrestling are evidence of his candidacy as Coach of the Year. The 49th SWAG Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 24, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
