Renowned Taekwondo athlete and instructor, Hannah Akua Humphrey, has been nominated for the Dedication and Valour award at the upcoming 49th SWAG Awards. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 24, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Humphrey’s impressive Taekwondo career spans over a decade, with numerous national and international accolades. She is a six-time national gold medalist in the female bantamweight and flyweight categories, as well as a two-time national gold medalist in poomsae and kyukpa.

As the founder and instructor of Candace Taekwondo, Humphrey has dedicated herself to teaching the fundamental concepts of taekwondo and helping students develop confidence and a positive self-image. Her academy has produced several outstanding students, including three female students who have gone on to attend boarding schools and excel academically.

One of Humphrey’s students was even accepted into Yale University, crediting her taekwondo training as a key factor in developing the personal discipline that contributed to her eligibility for admission.

In addition to her work at Candace Taekwondo, Humphrey has also served as an assistant instructor at Pulse Taekwondo Club since 2013. She has worked tirelessly to help students with special needs and those who lack basic skills in taekwondo.

Humphrey’s passion for Taekwondo extends beyond her competitive career and instructional roles. She has been a volunteer for the Ghana Taekwondo Federation since 2017 and has helped organise several national and international taekwondo championships.

In 2019, Humphrey single-handedly organised the ‘Safety For All’ campaign, training over 800 school children in non-physical self-defence techniques, online safety, and emergency response.

The 49th SWAG Awards will recognise Humphrey’s outstanding contributions to taekwondo and her community. Her nomination for the Dedication and Valour award is evidence of her tireless efforts to promote the sport and empower young people through taekwondo training.
