The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the reassignment of former Black Stars defender John Paintsil to the national U-20 team, the Black Satellites, as Assistant Coach.
Paintsil moves from the senior national team, where he served as High Performance Coach under the Black Stars technical setup, to continue his coaching development with the youth national side.
The former Fulham, Leicester City and West Ham United full-back will work with the Black Satellites technical team as they begin preparations for next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and other international assignments.
The move forms part of the GFA’s ongoing technical restructuring exercise, which is aimed at ensuring greater focus, efficiency and specialisation across the various national teams.
The GFA says Paintsil’s vast experience, leadership, and understanding of modern football will be invaluable to the development of the country’s next generation of talents.
Paintsil, 43, is one of Ghana’s most decorated defenders, earning 91 caps for the Black Stars and featuring at two FIFA World Cups in 2006 and 2010, as well as multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Since retiring, he has been steadily transitioning into coaching, handling roles at club level and most recently with the senior national team.
His appointment is expected to bring added motivation and mentorship to the Black Satellites squad.
