GBA Presidential Hopeful Ivan Bruce Cudjoe Submits Nomination, Vows to Reform Ghana Boxing

Ghana Boxing Authority presidential aspirant Ivan Bruce Cudjoe has officially submitted his nomination forms to contest the upcoming GBA elections, promising to overhaul the sport’s administration and expand its reach beyond Accra.

Cudjoe filed his forms on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, ahead of the much-anticipated GBA elective congress slated for June 4, 2026, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking to the media after submission, the promoter said his decision to run stems from his frustration with the current state of the sport.

“I’ve been in promotion for some time now, and looking at how things are going, it’s not to the best of my ability. I thought of coming in to change the way things are being done in boxing,” Cudjoe said. “Right now, there’s no GBA in the way it should be. The way fights are organized is not the best. For trainers, boxers, medicals and all those things, it’s not well done.”

If elected, he pledged to streamline operations and restore structure to the sport. “It is my prayer that as I take the nod to become GBA president, I’ll try and streamline all these things to be done properly.”

A key pillar of Cudjoe’s campaign is decentralizing boxing development across Ghana’s 16 regions.

“Boxing is not supposed to be centred only in Accra. Believe me, there are talents all over the 16 regions of Ghana, but we are not tapping it,” he said.

He outlined plans to work with the National Sports Authority to deploy experienced coaches and former boxers nationwide to scout and nurture talent.

“Boxing is something that can generate a lot of revenue for this country. In time past, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and others lifted the image of Ghana on the world stage. Today, a few like Joseph Agbeko and Joshua Clottey have done that, but it’s not very encouraging. If I have the nod, I’ll make sure those things are put in the right perspective.”

When asked about his chances against other contenders, Cudjoe said he is keeping his eyes forward.

“One thing I always do when I’m fighting is I don’t look back. If you’re running a race and you keep looking back, they will overtake you. I’m focused.”
