The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially launched the maiden edition of the KIVO U17 Regional Champions Cup, a new national colts football competition designed to discover and develop the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.

The tournament was launched on Thursday, 5th November 2026, at the GFA Headquarters in Accra, in the presence of GFA officials, executive committee members, representatives of headline sponsors KIVO, supporting sponsor JLAB and other stakeholders in grassroots football.

Speaking at the launch, 2nd Vice-President of CAF and President of Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, described the competition as a significant opportunity for young footballers to showcase their talent, represent their communities and take a step closer to their football dreams.

The KIVO U-17 Regional Champions Cup forms a key part of the GFA’s youth development pathway. It will give young players a national platform, greater exposure and the chance to test themselves against the best from other regions. It will also serve as a scouting ground for Ghana’s national youth teams.

Mr. Okraku described the partnership between GFA and KIVO as a perfect example of how football and the private sector can work together to create meaningful opportunities for young people.

Mr. Evans Kwofie, Head of Marketing for KIVO Group, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Football Association for the opportunity to partner.

“We believe the future of Ghana football begins at the grassroots,” he said.

“To be a great footballer is a story that starts somewhere, on the school park, community football field where a young boy looks for a dream.”

The likes of Asamoah Gyan and Mohammed Kudus remind us of something important, that talent can be found everywhere. KIVO is here to sponsor together with GFA to help unearth talents.

“Our responsibility goes beyond providing quality foods but also responsibly contributing to the community in which we operate. Youth development is an important part of our community which KIVO wants to help. We want to help young footballers showcase their talent, give exposure and help build confidence to achieve their dreams.

“The players should be disciplined, respect their coaches and take their education very seriously.”

The competition will be played among champions of the various regions at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence from 8th to 15th November, 2026.
