The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, together with the leadership of the Karate, Judo, Jujutsu and Kendo Associations, has announced a joint Martial Arts Championship to be held this weekend.
The championship, scheduled for Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October 2026 at the Hathramani Hall, Accra Sports Stadium, will showcase Ghana’s growing strength in Japanese and international martial arts.
Speaking ahead of the event, organizers highlighted that participation in martial arts is increasing rapidly across Ghana, with many young and promising athletes excelling.
The competition will feature vibrant and dynamic contests across all four disciplines. It is also expected to serve as a platform to select athletes who will represent Ghana at continental championships in Africa and ultimately at the Olympic Games.
H.E. Ambassador Yoshimoto commended the associations for promoting the values of discipline, respect and excellence that are central to Japanese martial arts, and reaffirmed Japan’s continued support for sports development in Ghana.
Mr. Nathaniel Johnson, President of the Karate Association, said the medal ceremony will have special surprises.
“Spectators will experience the distinct techniques, discipline and competitive spirit of each art,” he said. He called on schools, parents, the media and the general public to attend in large numbers to encourage the athletes and support their continued development.
Mr. Johnson expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Japan, all federations, coaches, officials and volunteers.
The competition is open to the general public and promises to be a celebration of discipline, skill and Ghana’s growing martial arts community.
