Ghana’s impressive Beach Volleyball performance at the ongoing Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games has translated into concrete support from the world governing body for volleyball.

The support was disclosed in a high-level meeting with the President of the FIVB, Mr. Fabio Azevedo, and his entourage on Tuesday, 3rd November 2026, at Saly Beach West, the venue for the beach volleyball matches.

The Ghana delegation was led by the Chef de Mission of Team Ghana, Mr. Evans Yeboah. Present were the President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation, Mr. George Tettey, and Madam Veronica Commey.

During the meeting, the FIVB President expressed admiration for Ghana’s performance and progress in beach volleyball, noting the team’s resilience, discipline and commitment in Dakar.

Following the discussions, the FIVB decided to support Ghana’s volleyball through three key areas:

Provision of modern beach volleyball equipment, including match balls, training kits and nets, to strengthen training at national and grassroots levels.

Scholarships for identified talented athletes to support their education, training and international exposure, ensuring they can continue to develop without financial barriers.

Continued technical assistance through coach education, expert support and mentorship to raise the standard of coaching and athlete development in Ghana.

The meeting came a day after Ghana’s men’s pair, Justice Adusei Amoafo and Daniel Lartey, beat Morocco 2-0 (21-13, 21-19) in the Lucky Loser round to reach the Round of 16, after earlier recovering from defeats to Australia and Kazakhstan with a 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia. And an impressive performance against world number one ranked country, Germany.

The FIVB delegation commended the team for their fighting spirit and for representing Africa with pride at the first Olympic event to be held on African soil.

Mr. Yeboah, on behalf of Team Ghana, thanked the FIVB for the recognition and support, describing it as a major boost for the development of volleyball in Ghana.

Mr. Tettey also welcomed the intervention, saying it would complement the work already being done by the Federation, including the recent FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course in Accra and the Youth Athlete Development Programme with CAVB and IOC Olympic Solidarity.

The support is expected to lay a strong foundation for Ghana’s beach volleyball programme as the country builds towards senior continental championships and the LA 2028 qualification cycle.
