Ghana’s Amputee Men’s National Team, the Black Challenge, have intensified preparations for the upcoming 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup with a training session at the Mensah Sarbah Park, University of Ghana.

The session, led by head coach Richard Stephen Obeng, forms part of the team’s build-up to the global showpiece as they aim to translate their continental dominance onto the world stage. The Black Challenge are three-time African champions and head into the tournament as one of the favourites.

The team showed great determination and tactical discipline during training, with the technical team focusing on fitness, ball work and match strategy.

President of the African Paralympic Committee and President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Mr. Samson Deen, who was present at the training grounds, backed the team to conquer the world.

“We at the NPC believe a team must be disciplined and they must be given the necessary attention that will give them the positive energy to be able to give the needed results. The players have been seeing what the media have been doing for the Black Stars and other sports, and as an experienced sports administrator like me, I believe that they also deserve much even better than what you’ve been doing for others,” he said.”

‘Targeting the podium is the ultimate. I’m standing on behalf of the team, they will win the World Cup. I’ve told them, they should win it. I’ve told them they should do everything in their capacity to win the World Cup, because we have the best team in the world.”

After the training session, players, technical staff, journalists and bloggers present were hosted to a dinner, providing an opportunity for interaction and to strengthen the relationship between the team and the media ahead of the World Cup.

The Black Challenge have been drawn in a tough Group D alongside former world champions Angola, South American giants Colombia, and Asian powerhouse Iraq.

The 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup is scheduled to take place in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, from November 13 to 22, 2026, with 24 nations expected to participate.

The team is calling on Ghanaians, corporate Ghana and all stakeholders to support their quest to bring the World Cup trophy home.
