The African Union has officially confirmed that the 14th African Games will be held in Cairo, Egypt, from 27 August to 10 September 2027.
The announcement came after a high-level meeting in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital between H.E. Amb. Amma Twum-Amoah, Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development of the African Union Commission, and H.E. Gohar Nabil, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports.

With the dates now locked in, African Union Member States, national sports federations, and stakeholders across the continent can move from planning to full preparation for what organizers are calling an “exceptional edition” of the Games.
Both leaders stressed the need for close collaboration, effective coordination, and timely delivery to ensure the event is successful and leaves a lasting legacy for African sport.
As part of the visit, Amb. Twum-Amoah toured the proposed competition venues in the Egyptian capital. The tour was aimed at assessing infrastructure and operational plans, and officials say it has boosted confidence in Cairo’s readiness to host Africa’s flagship sporting event.
The 2027 Games will be the second time Egypt hosts the African Games, after Accra 2023 and Rabat 2019. Cairo is expected to leverage existing world-class facilities and its experience in delivering major international tournaments.
The African Games, held every four years, is the continent’s largest multi-sport event and serves as a key platform for athlete development, unity, and showcasing African talent on the global stage.
