Minister Inaugurates LOC for ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier B in Ghana

Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation (MoSR) has inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the highly anticipated International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa qualifier B scheduled for March 2026. 

The short ceremony marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s preparations to host a major international cricket event, aimed at promoting the sport, boost local tourism, and foster community engagement across the nation.

Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams in his address, highlighted the importance of the continental showpiece as part of Ghana’s broader commitment to sports development and diversification. 

“Today’s inauguration signifies yet another key step in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to develop, promote, and leverage sports as a powerful tool for national progress and international engagement.”

He emphasized Ghana’s successful track record in hosting prestigious sporting events, citing the country’s impressive organization of the 13th African Games.

Mr. Nii Okai Evans Anfom, Chairman of the LOC also thanked the Minister and the leadership of the Ghana Cricket Association for entrusting them with the responsibility to spearhead the organisation of the competition. 

 “We are committed to working vigorously with all stakeholders to deliver a world-class tournament that will be remembered for its professionalism and excellence,” he assured.

The tournament will feature six teams playing in a round-robin format with each team playing the other once. The top two teams will eventually qualify to play in the Regional Qualifier which is a crucial step towards securing a spot in the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The participating countries are: Ghana, Tanzania, Eswatini, Malawi, St. Helena and Seychelles

The seven-member LOC board includes Mr. Nii Okai Evans Anfom, Mr. Nihal Abbas, Mr. Erasmus Douglas Djarbeng, Madam Evelyn Amerley Nuno-Amarteifio, Mr. Horen Quashigah, Mr. Samuel Ayer, and Madam Gifty Fianu.
