Fuseini Issah has been named the Best Wrestler of the Year at the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) 50th awards night held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Fuseini Issah, who has had a remarkable year, won several international medals, including a bronze medal at the ECOWAS Africa Wrestling tournament in Abuja, Nigeria, two bronze medals at the Africa Wrestling Championship in Casablanca, Morocco, and gold and bronze medals at the International African Wrestling and Beach Wrestling tournament in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The 2025 SWAG award winner expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’m greeting all my fans and I’m so happy to be nominated and win this award. They should expect more medals.”

When asked about his secret to winning five medals in three international competitions, Fuseini attributed his success to his dedication to training and the support of the Ghana Wrestling Federation president, Mr. Norbert Amefu.

Amefu praised Fuseini’s achievement, saying, “The best achievement, you know, wrestling has been in the system for not too long, but we are progressing. For us to get this achievement, I think that has put us on a record that wrestling has come to stay.”
Amefu also highlighted the federation’s plans to take wrestling to the next level, saying, “Wrestling will be heard in the next couple of years to come. It will be one of the leading sports in Ghana.”
The Ghana Wrestling Federation president credited his team’s efforts for the success, saying, “I’m a sports personality and I know what sports means. So, when I took over, I put things in place which can bring us up. And for now, it’s working very well.”
