Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has expressed his shock and sadness following the tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota in a car crash. Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 25, lost their lives in the accident. Salah described the news as “extremely difficult to accept” and paid tribute to his former teammate’s memory.

“I am truly lost for words,” Salah said. “Team-mates come and go, but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.” Salah’s heartfelt words highlighted the impact Jota had on the team and the void his passing will leave.

Salah also extended his condolences to Jota’s family, particularly his wife, children, and parents, who have suffered an unimaginable loss. “My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children,” he said. “Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”

According to reports, Jota was traveling by car and ferry to return to Liverpool for pre-season training after being advised against flying due to recent surgery. The Guardia Civil confirmed that both men died at approximately 00:30 local time on Thursday.

Jota had recently married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children, just 11 days before the fatal crash. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the football community, with many paying tribute to the talented young player.
