Madam Gloria Commodore, also known as Mama G, bid an emotional farewell to the Women in Sports Association (WISA) Achievers Awards after ten years of honouring outstanding female sports personalities and presenters. The awards ceremony took place at the Accra Sports Media Centre on September 21, 2024.

In her final speech, Mama G said, “After sixty years in sports, I’m retiring at 67. My strength isn’t what it used to be, but I’m finishing strong, just like all sportspeople do.”

She continued, “My passion for sports kept me going, even when I lost my husband, who supported me financially. I almost gave up nine years ago, but I decided to continue honouring our female sportswomen annually.”

Mama G practiced eight disciplines, including combat sports for self-defence and stress relief. “I understand what our female sportswomen go through,” she said.

WISA, a registered brand, has awarded over 300 sportswomen and supporters. Mama G expressed pride in WISA’s impact, citing awardees’ subsequent successes.
