A new chapter has begun for the Ghana Skaters Association (GHASA) as an eleven-member executive committee was sworn into office to lead the organization for the next four years. The team, headed by President Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportüfe, is composed of experienced individuals passionate about promoting skating in Ghana.
Skating, which involves traveling on surfaces using skates, has been part of Ghana’s sports ecosystem for some time. Previously operating as the Federation of Roller Sports, the organization underwent a name change to GHASA in January 2023. An interim management committee was established to develop and amend the constitution, plan activities, and organize elections.
After a successful online election, the new executive committee was formed. Lawyer Devine Kweku Asigbetsey administered the oath of office to the newly elected members, including President Kportüfe, Vice Presidents Godfrey Amarteifio, Reginald Quartey, Andrew Bampoe-Parry, Emmanuel Lartey, and Eric Fordjour. Prosper Ashiquaye Doku took on the role of Secretary-General, with NANA Yaw Quansah as Deputy Secretary General. George Bamfo became the Treasurer, Solomon Anim-Owusu the Athlete Representative, and Josephine Darkwah the Women’s Commissioner.
Lawyer Asigbetsey urged the new executives to work diligently to develop the sport, while Secretary-General Doku expressed openness to partnering with corporate Ghana to promote skating. With a strong leadership team in place, GHASA is poised for growth and success in the years to come.
