The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted Category 2 approval to the TnA Stadium, marking a significant milestone for football infrastructure in Ghana.
The approval followed a comprehensive inspection by CAF experts and paves the way for the Tarkwa venue to host more continental matches.
The decision reflects what the GFA described as “a significant achievement for Ghana football” and a demonstration of the country’s commitment to upgrading facilities in line with the latest CAF Stadium Regulations.
The GFA also credited the collaborative work of Medeama Sporting Club, stadium management, and other key stakeholders for driving the upgrades that met continental standards.
While the approval is a major step forward, CAF has attached conditions that must be met before TnA hosts its next continental fixture.To further assess the venue, CAF will appoint a Stadium Infrastructure Inspector to attend a designated match. The inspector will evaluate operations before, during and after the game, focusing on infrastructure functionality, safety and security, spectator management, media and broadcasting requirements, and overall compliance with CAF regulations.
CAF has stated that its final decision on approving TnA Stadium for future CAF and FIFA competitions will be made after reviewing the inspector’s report and confirming that all outstanding issues have been resolved.
The GFA welcomed CAF’s decision and described it as “another important step in enhancing Ghana’s capacity to host international football matches.”
“The Football Association remains committed to working closely with Medeama Sporting Club, the stadium management and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that every outstanding observation is addressed promptly and effectively,” the GFA said in a statement.
The Association also expressed appreciation to CAF for its “continued guidance and technical support throughout the inspection and approval process” and reiterated its commitment to ensuring Ghana’s football infrastructure meets the highest continental and international standards.
With TnA Stadium now on CAF’s approved list, Ghana gains another viable venue to host youth, women’s and early-round club competitions — a boost for football development and for Medeama SC, who will be able to use the facility for their CAF campaigns once final conditions are met.
