Ghana’s wrestling team paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to present two gold medals and a trophy won during a training tour in Guinea-Bissau.

The delegation was led by Ghana Wrestling Association (GWA) President Norbert Amefu. The visit celebrated the success of young wrestlers Prince Owusu and Muphtawu Mohammed, who clinched gold medals at the championship, helping Ghana finish 3rd overall.

Amefu thanked the GOC, led by President Richard Akpokavie, for its “enormous support” in advancing the sport. He credited the GOC for helping secure Olympic Solidarity funding that enabled Owusu, Mohammed, and coach Twumasi Addo to travel to Guinea-Bissau for training and competition.

“Helping them get Olympic Solidarity funds aided the two athletes and coach to explore the opportunity to learn and train in Guinea-Bissau,” Amefu said.

Receiving the team, GOC President Akpokavie congratulated the wrestlers on their “marvelous achievements” and urged them to keep pushing.

“Do not rest on your laurels. Train extra hard to attain the highest level in your career,” he told the athletes.

The brief ceremony was attended by the President of GOC, Richard Akpokavie, 3rd Vice President Ernest Danso and GOC board member Nana Adu Mankata II.

The Guinea-Bissau training camp was part of preparations for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, under the United World Wrestling and Olympic Solidarity “Road to Dakar” project.
