The Ghana Kendo Federation (GKF) has announced a historic achievement at the 1st Tunis Kendo International Championship in Tunisia, where Ghana made a remarkable debut on the global stage despite being a newly established federation.

GKF President, Mr. Sesi Dzakpasu, represented Ghana at the event, attending both the competition and the Member Nations Conference. Despite financial constraints limiting the delegation to only the president, Mr. Dzakpasu’s performance garnered significant attention and respect for Ghana’s kendo community.

Mr. Dzakpasu achieved a major milestone by passing his 1st Dan Black Belt examination, becoming the first Ghana-based practicing kendoka to attain this rank. He delivered an exceptional competitive performance, securing two victories in the opening round and advancing to the quarterfinals.

In recognition of his courage and determination, Mr. Dzakpasu was awarded the “Most Spirited Fighter – Male Division” award, highlighting his demonstration of kendo’s core values.

The GKF, established less than a year ago, has made significant strides in promoting the sport through national training programs, regional clubs, and youth development initiatives. The federation is calling on supporters to help advance kendo nationwide, aiming to field a full national team at future international events and expand training programs.

The GKF acknowledges the support of the National Sports Authority, the Japan Embassy, and the Aviation Social Center, and invites all to join in growing kendo in Ghana.

The Ghana Kendo Federation, led by President Mr. Sesi Dzakpasu, extends its sincere appreciation to the Tunisian Kendo League for the warm and gracious reception accorded to them during their stay in Tunis for the 1st Tunis Kendo International Championships. #TunisianKendoLeague
