Nima 1 Basic School’s Under 12 team has emerged victorious in the 4th Annual NFL Flag National Championship Under 12, defeating Benevolent from Kumasi 19-12.

The event, which took place from October 31 to November 1 at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium, showcased the talents of young athletes from across the country.

As champions, Nima 1 Basic School’s Under 12 team will represent Ghana in the NFL Flag Africa Championship in 2026.

Head coach Otoo Augustine Akumeni expressed his excitement and gratitude, attributing the team’s success to hard work, determination, and God’s guidance.

“We are so excited,” Coach Akumeni said. “For the past four years, Nima 1 has been to the final stage three times, but this year, we trained very hard and with prayers, we have achieved our goal. We are grateful to NFL Ghana, the officials, and my lovely kids, the players who played well to bring the school this far. God bless everybody.”

Coach Akumeni also praised his team’s dedication, despite the challenges they faced in training.

“We hardly got ample time to train, but we managed to do intensive training, and that’s how we have come this far. It’s out of hard work and determination that we have achieved this feat.”

The coach is looking forward to leading Nima 1 to represent Ghana at an international level.

“I’m very, very excited. After everything, if Team Ghana is being mentioned, and they’re looking at which school is behind Team Ghana, it’s going to be Nima 1. I’m grateful, and we’re going to make Ghana proud.”

The team’s MVP, Raymond Azamela, was overjoyed, thanking his coach and teammates for their support.

“I’m so happy to win this championship, and I give all thanks to my coach, Coach Augustine, and my teammates. I’m very happy to be part of the team that represents Ghana in Africa.”
