The Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Association paid a courtesy call to the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The visit came on the heels of the successful hosting of the Global Warrior Champions Night of MMA at the Bukom Boxing Arena on May 3.

The delegation, led by President Mr. Jeff Taylor, Vice President Mr. Kwabs Asamoah, Executive Secretary Racheal Edogun, Director of International Relations Madam Christiana Ashley, and team captain Samuel Tackie, expressed their gratitude to the NSA for its support and sought assistance in several areas.
President Taylor highlighted the association’s efforts to license officials and fighters, stating, “We are in the process of licensing all of the officials. We want to get some of the fighters with licenses as well, whether or not they’re amateur, professional, and stuff like that.” He added that the association has been funding these initiatives through donations.
Vice President Asamoah emphasized the need for a training facility, saying, “We’re looking for a facility to train to be able to have a national team that’s representative of Ghana.” He also requested secretarial and administrative assistance to help the federation run smoothly and comply with NSA and ministry regulations.
The Director General of the NSA, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, praised the association for its dedication and professionalism, saying, “I can feel your warmth, your genuine passion for a sport which once upon a time was considered lesser known or least sponsored.” He commended the association’s strong pillars, including local knowledge and international experience, and appreciated the mutual respect and willingness to learn.

Mr. Ampofo Ankrah acknowledged the association’s efforts in branding Ghana and bringing the community together, stating, “You guys are on the right track.” While expressing regret over the limited financial resources available, he assured the association of the NSA’s support.
Team captain Samuel Tackie pleaded for support, saying, “We need support, with the support from the NSA and the government, we can take this sport out of this country and make it not a lesser-known sport, but maybe a more popular sport.” He emphasized the need for facilities, instructors, coaches, and other resources to help the team succeed.
The Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Association is poised to grow the sport, and with the NSA’s support, it hopes to achieve greater success and recognition.
