Accra, April 26, 2025 – Michael Odum Aggrey, former President of the Ghana Golf Association, has congratulated Richard Akpokavie on his election as President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). Aggrey, who garnered 19 votes out of 63 in the election, praised the electoral process, saying it was “very transparent and fair… smooth and successful.”

“The delegates have spoken, what can we say, we are happy with what has happened,” Aggrey said humbly. Despite his loss, Aggrey expressed his commitment to supporting the new leadership. “I wish them the very best,” he said. “All I can say is that, if he can follow through on the kind of things that they have said, then it is good for Ghana Sports.”

Aggrey emphasized his passion for sports development, stating, “Me, I am for Sports. So as long as they do the right thing to enhance Ghana Sports, then we will be happy in supporting.” He also pledged to offer assistance and advice when needed, saying, “If in any time we are called upon to assist in any shape or form, we will be happy to give them assistance and advice. After all, it is the country that we love and it is the sports that we want to enhance.”

When asked about his future plans, Aggrey was non-committal about contesting in the next GOC election. “It is too early for me to say it,” he said. “You know I have my hands on a lot of pies. I am sure I will be preoccupied, but we will see when it’s time.”

With his gracious words, Aggrey has set a positive tone for the transition of leadership at the GOC. His willingness to support the new administration is a welcome development for Ghanaian sports.
