Do you want a leader who acts decisively to improve Ghanaian sports? Mr. Mohammed Mahadi, the 3rd Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has consistently demonstrated his leadership capabilities.
It was Mr. Mahadi’s initiative to establish the Technical Sub-Committee of the GOC, a committee designed to provide vital technical support to all federations and guide the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Sports on Olympic-related issues. This committee played a critical role in preparing our boxers for the Tokyo Olympics, leading to historic medal achievements under the leadership of the late Mr. Paul Atcho and Mr. Mohammed Shaban, President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation and Operations Manager, respectively.
Mr. Mahadi also proposed creating the Games Subcommittee to address challenges faced by federations ahead of major championships. This committee developed a biannual program for all federations, linking it with funding from ANOCA, IOC, ANOC, and the Commonwealth. This strategy enabled the Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee to secure critical funding, ensuring federations knew exactly what to expect from the GOC in terms of financial support.
Furthermore, Mr. Mahadi proposed the International Relations Sub-Committee to reignite Ghana’s diplomatic ties with the international Olympic community. He personally funded a trip to Turkey to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the GOC and the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC), setting the stage for future collaboration.
Mr. Mahadi’s selflessness and commitment to the greater good of Ghana are evident in his decision to sacrifice his role as CDM for the Accra 2023 African Games, prioritizing peace and solidarity over personal gain.
