Mohammed Sahnoon, the incumbent Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has launched a spirited defense of his tenure, urging delegates to re-elect him in the upcoming GOC elective congress on April 26, 2025. In an exclusive interview with Graphic Sports, Sahnoon highlighted his experience, commitment, and achievements as key reasons for his continued leadership.

Sahnoon emphasized his role in advancing Ghanaian sports, particularly through the growth of cycling among the youth. As President of the Ghana Cycling Federation, he has overseen increased participation and community-driven events, promoting physical fitness and discipline among young Ghanaians. “My leadership has fostered tangible progress in various disciplines, and cycling’s rise is a clear example,” he said.

Sahnoon addressed criticisms surrounding operational challenges, including delays in securing visas for athletes and perceived inefficiencies in coordinating with sports federations. He clarified the GOC’s role in facilitating athlete participation and attributed delays to external factors beyond the GOC’s control. On funding, Sahnoon noted that his administration has actively pursued partnerships to bolster resources for federations.

Sahnoon pledged to build on his foundation if re-elected, focusing on expanding opportunities for all Olympic sports disciplines. “My vision is to ensure every sport under the GOC thrives,” he said. “From athletics to lesser-known disciplines, I am committed to creating pathways for athletes to excel locally and internationally.

“With the election approaching, Sahnoon urged GOC delegates to focus on his proven leadership and expertise. “This is not about promises; it’s about results,” he said. “I have worked tirelessly to grow Ghanaian sports, and I ask for your trust to continue this journey.”

The outcome of the April 26 elective congress will determine whether Sahnoon’s vision for Ghanaian sports will continue to guide the GOC. As delegates prepare to cast their votes, the spotlight remains on his ability to balance past achievements with the promise of future progress.
