Ghana Fencing Association Gets Ministerial Boost: Hon. Samuel Nartey George Pledges Support for LA 2028 Olympics Qualification

The President of the Ghana Fencing Association, Mr. Mohammed Mahadi, who is also the 3rd Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, paid a courtesy call on Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations today. Mr. Mahadi was accompanied by two national team fencers, Eric Malik and Isaac Teinor and Administrator Ibrahim Yakubu.

Mr. Mahadi briefed the Minister on the impact of fencing federations in his constituency and introduced the two fencers, who are part of the national team.

Hon. Samuel Nartey George was impressed by their achievements, including winning a silver medal in the 2018 African Championships in Côte d’Ivoire. The fencers are currently preparing for the African Championship in Nigeria, the World Championship in Georgia and other tournaments in Europe and America, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the LA 2028 Olympics.

Mr. Mahadi emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting sports development, adding, “Let’s join hands in making history and making our nation proud”.

Hon. Samuel George expressed pride in the fencers’ achievements and promised to support their journey to the LA 2028 Olympics. He also pledged to partner with the Ministry of Sports to promote the Ghana Fencing Association.

The Minister’s commitment to supporting sports development was further demonstrated by his immediate call to Hon. Kofi Adams, Sector Minister for Sports, to seek his permission and collaboration in promoting the Ghana Fencing Association. Hon. Adams welcomed the joint initiative and expressed confidence in its success.

Hon. Sam George presented GHS 20,000 to the association, with GHS 5,000 each for the two fencers and GHS 10,000 for the association. The Ghana Fencing Association team also presented Team Ghana Fencing t-shirts to the Minister.

This meeting marks a significant step in fostering collaboration between the Ghana Fencing Association and Government Ministries to promote sports development and build a stronger society through sports.
