The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) held its 49th awards ceremony on Friday, January 24, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre to honour outstanding sports personalities and organisations in Ghana. The Ghana Athletics Association emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home six prestigious awards.
Edwin Gadayi was crowned Male Athlete of the Year, while Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah made history by winning two awards: Female Athlete of the Year and the coveted Sports Personality of the Year. The Ghana Athletics was also recognized as the top federation among the top five, and its president, Bawa Fuseini, was named Sports Administrator of the Year, and Ghana Athletics Relay Team won National Team of the Year.
Other notable winners included Abdul Azziz Issah, who won both Male Footballer of the Year and Prospect of the Year, and Mukarama Abdulai, who took home Female Footballer of the Year.
The SWAG Awards also honored several individuals and organizations for their contributions to sports development in Ghana. Access Bank, KGL, and AFE Lotto were recognized with the SWAG Corporate Award, while Mr. Ernest Thompson, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, Ernest Danso, Theophilus Sampah, and Gabriel Obu received the Meritorious Award.
