The President of the Ghana Fencing Association, Mohammed Mahadi, has revealed an exciting lineup of events for the fencing fraternity in 2025. Speaking on GTV Sports+ Special’s “Year in Review” for 2024, Mahadi shared his expectations for the upcoming year.
According to Mahadi, Ghana has been selected to host a World Cup event for fencing, a historic milestone that follows the successful hosting of the 2023 African Cadet Junior Championship. This achievement has earned Ghana the confidence of the international fencing community, paving the way for the country to stage a world-class tournament.
In addition to hosting the World Cup event, Ghana’s fencers will participate in several international competitions, including the Cadet Junior Championship in Angola, the African Senior Championship in Nigeria, the World Junior Championship in China, and the World Senior Championship in Georgia.
Mahadi emphasized the importance of government support in hosting the World Cup event, highlighting the economic benefits it will bring to the country. “Hosting this championship will generate revenue for the country through taxes, hotel bookings, and other related activities,” he explained.
The Ghana Fencing Association is counting on a collaborative effort with the government to create a conducive environment for private sector investment in the sport. Mahadi believes that this partnership will not only benefit the fencing community but also have a positive impact on related industries such as hospitality, transportation, and media.
