Trabzon, Türkiye – Ghana makes its maiden appearance at the 15th Senior and 1st Junior World Cup of the Federation International Football Skating (FIFS) 2024, held in Trabzon, Türkiye. The Ghanaian delegation, led by President Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe, arrived in Türkiye in high spirits, eager to make a mark in the tournament.

Accompanying President Johnson Kportufe were his general secretary, Prosper Ashiquaye Doku, and Vice President Godfrey William Amarteifio. The delegation presented a junior team for the inaugural edition of the junior tournament, demonstrating Ghana’s commitment to developing the sport among its youth.

The Ghanaian junior team, comprised of talented young football skaters, mainly from the SWAT Skate Club, stationed at the Greater Accra Regional Police Station, showcased their skills and determination on the rink. Although they are likely to face stiff competition from more experienced teams, this will allow them the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and exposure to the international football skating community, foster international friendship, and cultural exchange, enhance their skills, and help team Ghana to excel and bring glory to their clubs, schools and Ghana.

Beyond the tournament, the Ghanaian delegation is expected to participate in a congress, where representatives from participating countries will convene to discuss the progress and growth of football skating globally, among other things. The platform will also provide Ghana with opportunities to share its experiences, learn from others, and contribute to the development of the sport worldwide.

President Kportufe expressed his optimism about Ghana’s participation in the tournament. “We are excited and thrilled to make our debut at the FIFS World Cup. This is an eye-opener for young people, especially ladies, whom we intend to grow the sports with. This marks a significant milestone in our journey to promote and develop football skating in Ghana and skating as a whole. We look forward to learning from this experience and using it as a springboard for future success.”

As Ghana’s football skating community continues to grow and thrive, this historic appearance at the FIFS World Cup is a testament to the country’s dedication to the roller sport and any such sports performed on skate. With the junior team’s participation, Ghana will take a significant step towards nurturing the next generation of football skating talents.

The Ghanaian delegation will also make a representation at the congress of FIFS and will also provide a platform for the country to share its vision and strategies for developing football skating, both domestically and internationally.

Ghana Skate expects Ghana’s football skating community to eagerly await the return of the team and delegation with glory and be ready to build on the momentum gathered by this historic debut and experience.
