Ghana Athletics Commences 5-Day Basic Coaching Course

The Ghana Athletics, in collaboration with the National Sports College, has officially commenced the 5-Day Basic Athletics Coaching Course in Winneba, Central Region. The course, which began on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, brings together over 30 young coaches who will undergo intensive aspects of athletics coaching.

The ongoing 5-day program is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills in coaching philosophy, energy systems, principles of coaching, injury prevention, talent identification, and sports management. Other critical areas of focus include sports philosophy, growth and development, and periodisation. 

At the opening ceremony, Ghana Athletics President Mr. Bawah Fuseini commended the participants for their commitment to developing their coaching skills.

“As coaches, you are the backbone of our athletics development, and this course is crucial in ensuring your level of commitment and progression,” he stated. “I encourage you to take this course seriously, as it will equip you with the necessary skills to produce world-class athletes.”

Mr. Bawah Fuseini emphasised, “The future of Ghana’s athletics depends on your ability to impart knowledge and skills to our young athletes. I urge you to be attentive, ask questions, and make the most of this opportunity.”

Mr. Julius Baba Apidogo, a facilitator at the course, urged the participants to cooperate and work together to achieve a successful program. “Your participation and engagement are crucial to the success of this course. Let us work together to develop a new generation of athletics coaches who can take Ghana to the next level,” he said.

The first day of the course focused on coaching philosophy, energy systems, as well as principles of coaching.

The 5-Day Basic Athletics Coaching Course is a vital initiative aimed at developing the skills and knowledge of young coaches in Ghana.
