The two-day Rugby Africa Women’s 7s Championship in Ghana concluded with 12 teams competing for the top prize and a qualification spot in the 2025 Challenger Series Qualifier.
Defending champions South Africa successfully retained their title in a thrilling final against Kenya. The match was tied 5-5 at halftime, but South Africa gained momentum in the second half, ultimately winning 19-10.
Uganda claimed third place with a well-earned victory over Madagascar, ending the game with 17-5 points.
South Africa’s Nadine Roos was awarded the best player of the tournament for her exceptional performance throughout the championship.
In closing remarks, Africa and Ghana Rugby President Herbert Mensah praised Ghana for hosting Africa’s first-ever 12-team women’s rugby tournament, expressing gratitude to the President of Ghana for his support. He highlighted the excellence of the event and Ghana’s hospitality, which brought together hundreds of athletes and officials.
Looking ahead, he emphasised the importance of building rugby infrastructure across Africa, with upcoming initiatives in Morocco and Tunisia to promote youth rugby.
