Nigeria’s Ese Brume is undefeated in the women’s long jump for 8 years in the African Athletics Championships

Ese Brume wins gold medal in the women’s Long Jump final at the 23rd African Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon.

Sitting in 2nd place behind Burkina Faso’s Marthe Koala, who was leading with 6.72m after five attempts, Brume dug deep into her experience, leaping 6.73m in the final round to win gold. Koala had to settle for silver, while Brume extended her win streak on the continental level to eight years.

Ese Brume has won four gold medals in the women’s Long Jump at the African Athletics Championships, extending her undefeated streak to eight years.

Brume won a silver medal in the long jump event at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships, Nigeria’s only medal in the competition. She also won another silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, becoming the first African to win two Long Jump medals at the World Athletics Championships. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she won gold in the women’s long jump event and broke the game record with her 7.00m jump. She now holds the Commonwealth Games record, surpassing Australia’s Bronwyn Thompson’s previous record of 6.97m.
