The Accra Turf Club staged an emergency rally to demand justice and the restoration of its Race Course land at Borteyman, near the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The protest, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, follows what the Club describes as a forceful takeover and demolition of its facility on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
According to the Club, a group of armed men led by one Azuma, accompanied by police officers under the command of DSP Malaika, stormed the premises with bulldozers and an excavator and demolished about 100 horse stables, offices, racing facilities, track railings and water facilities.
During the rally, members carried placards and called on President John Dramani Mahama to restore the Club’s possession and access to the land.
The Accra Turf Club presented a petition to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Presidency and the Lands Commission.
Board Chairman of the Accra Turf Club, Mr Fred Neur Esq., in a statement to the Presidency, said:
“We have come not merely to protest, but to seek the intervention of the highest office of our motherland Ghana, in order for justice to prevail. Our principal concern is the unlawful occupation, demolition and attempted takeover of the Accra Turf Club’s facility at Borteyman.”
“We respectfully ask Your Excellency to intervene in view of the seriousness of this matter to protect the good image of your government and ensure that the agreement between the State and Accra Turf Club regarding the land swap is respected.”
Mr Neur also emphasized the employment and economic opportunities the facility provides for a range of workers, including stable hands, grooms, jockeys, trainers, veterinary personnel, grounds and maintenance workers, security personnel, administrative staff, drivers, catering personnel and other service providers.
