In a remarkable achievement, Ghana’s renowned Armwrestling referee, Nii Otoo Larkyne, popularly known as “Super,” has been crowned Referee of the Year at the 49th SWAG Awards, held at the Accra International Conference Centre. This prestigious award is a testament to Larkyne’s exceptional officiating skills and his outstanding contributions to the sport of Armwrestling.

Larkyne’s impressive 2024 record, which saw him officiate a total of 128 games across three major international competitions, made him a strong contender for the award. He took charge of 48 games at the 13th African Games in Accra, 54 games at the World Armwrestling Championships in Moldova, and 26 games at the Friday Night Armwrestling Championship in Teshie, Accra.
The SWAG Referee of the Year category was one of the most competitive, with Larkyne facing stiff competition from FIFA referee Julian Nunoo of football and WO1 Clement Smith Danyagri from Athletics. However, Larkyne’s impressive credentials and outstanding performances ultimately earned him the top spot.

Larkyne’s commitment to Armwrestling has garnered him respect and recognition from his colleagues and the larger sporting community, and this accomplishment is a happy moment for Ghanaian sports.
