The four-time African champions have drawn old foes Sudan as well as Angola and Niger in an interesting group.
Ghana will face Sudan – a team managed by former Black Stars coach and current GFA Executive Council member Kwesi Appiah.
The Black Stars will subsequently battle Angola and Niger for a slot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco.
Ghana’s last two appearances at the Nations Cup ended with the team exiting at the group stages.
The qualifying series, scheduled to commence in September 2024, will be a crucial step towards redemption for the Black Stars, who have suffered back-to-back group stage exits in recent editions of the tournament.
Ghana’s last AFCON triumph dates back to 1982 in Libya, and the team is eager to revive its glory days.
With a new dawn in Ghanaian football, the Black Stars will be looking to put their recent struggles behind them and make a strong push for the 2025 AFCON title.
The qualifiers will start in September 2024 and end in November 2024.
The detailed schedule has the following format:
- Matchdays 1 and 2 : 2 – 10 September 2024
- Matchdays 3 and 4 : 7 – 15 October 2024
- Matchdays 5 and 6 : 11 – 19 November 2024
The first and runners-up in the eleven (11) groups that do not involve tournament hosts Morocco, will gain qualification to the competition.
The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest sporting event in Africa and the next championship will be held from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
