The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 15th African Armwrestling Championship was inaugurated on Monday, January 20,2026 at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The event is scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 3, 2026, in Accra, Ghana.

Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, praised the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their progress and structure.
“This is for me another great opportunity to recognize what has been birthed and has properly purposed. Many federations have come so much bigger and you don’t see a structure progress, but we can’t say the same for armwrestling in Ghana. You truly have a structure and have a purpose,” he said.

“You have built something that has a correct foundation, you are doing something that has structure, you are doing something that will see progress. Let’s let the country see it so the country can identify with you and celebrate and honor you appropriately,” he added.
Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority, has been named Chairperson of the LOC. Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Vice Chairman of the LOC, read her speech at the ceremony.

“She accepts this role not merely as an honour, but as a responsibility—one that reflects the growing recognition of sports as a strategic pillar for national development, youth empowerment, and global visibility,” Dr. Addo-Agyekum said.
The event will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 African Games in Cairo, Egypt, and feature an elective congress to elect new leaders for the Armwrestling Federation of Africa.
Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Africa Armwrestling Federation, expressed gratitude for government support.

“Ghana hosted in 2018, we won when we hosted. In 2023, we deliberately hosted and we won. In 2026, two things will happen. There will be the elective congress to elect new leaders for Africa wrestling federation and particularly most importantly for every Ghanaian the championship Ghana is going to host will be the only qualifier for the 2027 Africa games,” he said.
