Ghana Wrestling: A Year of Medals and Pride

The Ghana Wrestling Association had a standout year in 2025, participating in four international tournaments and winning nine medals. The team ranked 3rd in freestyle wrestling in West Africa.

Tournament Highlights:

  • ECOWAS Africa Wrestling Tournament (Abuja, Nigeria): Bronze medal by Fuseini Issah
  • Africa Wrestling Championship (Casablanca, Morocco): Two bronze medals, including one by Fuseini Issah
  • International African Wrestling and Beach Wrestling Tournament (Ivory Coast): Four medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze)
  • West African Wrestling Championship (Ouidah, Benin): Two medals, including gold by Fuseini Issah

Awards and Recognition:

  • Fuseini Issah named Best Wrestler of 2025 at the 50th SWAG Awards
  • Two coaches, Henry Habada and Twumasi Addo, earned international coaching certificates

Ghana Wrestling Association President, Norbert Amefu hailed 2025 as a successful year, with performances exceeding expectations. Plans for 2026 include grooming cadets and hosting championships in Ashanti and Accra.

“Looking at the plans I’ve put in place, I believe next year will make an impact,” Amefu said.
