Ghana Athletics Inaugurates Finance and Budget Committee

Ghana Athletics has taken a major stride in bolstering its financial governance with the inauguration of a Finance and Budget Committee, headed by Mr. Christopher Amankrah Darko. The committee is responsible for overseeing budget planning, financial management, and accountability across the federation’s activities.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ghana Athletics President, Bawah Fuseini, emphasized the importance of the committee in supporting the federation’s growth and development.

“Today is one of the cardinal days for Ghana Athletics that we are going to integrate a very special committee that will support the programme and fundraising of Ghana Athletics,” he said. “The responsibility of the committee is to budget for everything Ghana Athletics, make all the programmes, look for funding, manage the funds, do audits, accounts to be submitted to World Athletics every year.”

“Their task is a very serious task and we have gotten a very serious people to work on that,” he added. “Next year we’ll have African championships, we’ll have World Relays in Botswana, we’ll have World Junior Championships in the US, we’ll have Commonwealth Games, we’ll have ECOWAS Championships in Senegal, we’ll have Region Five Nations in Burkina Faso and of course our domestic program five national championships.”

Chairman Mr. Darko expressed his gratitude and confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver. “Thank you very much Mr. president and on the behalf of my committee members we want to say that we are most grateful for this opportunity to serve in another capacity in Ghana Athletics,” he said.

The committee members are:

  • Mr. Christopher Amankrah Darko (Chairman)
  • Prof. Francis Dodoo
  • Mr. Andrew Agbo-Kitcher
  • Mr. Zachariah Suleman Yeboah
  • Mr. Sarfo Kantanka Akwasi

Two additional members will be coopted to the committee, which will have a total of seven members.
