WAFA Unveils State-of-the-Art Astroturf Pitch at Sogakope

The West African Football Academy (WAFA) has taken a significant step forward in its mission to develop football in the region with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art astroturf pitch at Sogakope.

The newly installed pitch, fully sponsored by African Tiger Holdings and the owners of WAFA SC, was officially opened on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The project, which started a month ago, was commissioned for official usage.

Speaking at the ceremony, Imoro Sulemana, CEO of African Tiger Holdings, expressed his company’s commitment to supporting WAFA’s projects.

“The ambition of African Tiger in this whole enterprise we believe in the project of WAFA and we are always ready to support it and whatever is necessary to make it progress and to grow we’ll always be there to do it.”

Gideon Fosu, representing the Ghana Football Association (GFA), praised WAFA’s management for their hard work in developing the facility.

“This is a memorable occasion. This beautiful happy face that we are seeing here this morning is as a result of the belief and the hard work of the management of WAFA.”

“I’m really, really happy to have this beautiful pitch on this day and I’m getting a bit emotional because it’s something special, it’s something historical.”

The Volta Regional Football Association chairman, Daniel Agbogah, praised WAFA for adding value to the region’s football ecosystem.

“Since WAFA came here, I have to admit that they have added a huge value to the football ecosystem of our region.”

Dignitaries who graced the occasion included Imoro Sulemana, CEO of Africa Tiger Holdings; Friso Maats, grandson of the late Mr. Winches; Joannes Gosgens, Managing Director of WAFA SC; Awafiagah Akotianumah IV, Chief of Fieve Traditional Area; Gideon Fosu, Executive Council member of the GFA; Yaw Preko, former Hearts of Oak coach; and many others.

The new astroturf pitch is being tested with a two-day invitational tournament on November 18-19, 2025, featuring six teams, including WAFA, Shooting Stars, Benab, Avranches, Fieldmasters, and Gold Coast Academy.
